Destination Golf Vacations

GolfIf you have been investigating golf and hotel packages recently, you are probably amazed at the number available and the various options being offered.

Most people will lean towards a destination resort golf vacation with green fees included, but some are finding that paying green fees a la carte provides some flexibility, especially if the destination is one that offers more than one course.

Here are a few tips that should help you devise a golf getaway that will be fun without having to sweat over every detail.

1. Equipment rental

Many golfers would shudder at the prospect of using any clubs other than their own, but the option of using equipment borrowed from the resort’s pro shop has some appeal. Traveling logistics are greatly simplified for one. Then there is the opportunity to sample some of the newest state-of-the-art equipment without actually purchasing it outright.

2. Green fees included

Many golf and hotel packages have this feature. It will save you considerable money over regular walk-on green fees. If you are going to a destination resort that has two or more courses, this is a convenient option to take.

On the other hand, if you are in a location with other great golf courses located near where you are staying, your package may offer highly discounted green fees. Even if they don’t, if you are the type of golfer who might get bored playing the same course, it is nice to keep your options open.

3. Amenities for non-golfers

You might think a week of nothing but golf is your concept of paradise, but if you are taking a trip with a non-golfing spouse or kids who have not yet discovered the joys of golf, pay attention to the other amenities that will prevent you from coming in from a great round to a group of people who are bored beyond comprehension. A nearby beach within walking distance or a resort with complimentary beach shuttle service would be one way to satisfy everyone.

A little planning will go a long way toward a golf vacation that will please everyone, with the benefit being that you may be able to repeat the experience in the future with enthusiastic companions who will be willing to eat, sleep, and talk golf as much as you could ever wish for.
