Making the Most of Black Friday

ShoppingBlack Friday is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Retailers save some of their best sales for that weekend to lure shoppers. Coupons and buy-one-get-one (BOGO) deals abound. However, with nearly every store having phenomenal deals, how does the shopper take advantage in order to enjoy the greatest savings? Below are five ideas to help you during the busiest shopping weekend of the year.

Create a Shopping List

While it sounds obvious, creating a shopping list prior to black Friday will focus the sale search, enabling the shopper to scout specific locations ahead of time. In addition, once the stores have been chosen, the consumer can compare prices, warranties and return policies in advance.

Arrive Early Even if It Means Camping Out

Many retailers open at midnight after Thanksgiving. However, a few stores now open at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday night. Either way, the shopper should be prepared to arrive hours earlier to secure a place in line. The most desirable products are electronics and the consumer may need to camp out the night before to get the best deals.

Regroup and Check the Department Stores

After securing the hottest deals, regroup and shop the department stores. Many anchor stores in malls will open around 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Bring the coupons from the local papers and scout out the best BOGO deals first before doing a little browsing. Many department stores have fantastic deals on clearance merchandise this weekend, so shoppers will want to spend some time checking those racks.

Stop for Lunch before Shopping the Boutiques

Generally, the boutiques do not participate in early bird madness for black Friday. However, they will have excellent specials and sales to entice their loyal customer base into the store after the big rush. A boutique can be a pleasant respite from the stampedes that can occur with consumers in mass retailers. Small business owners in the malls will offer some exciting BOGO deals and coupons to take advantage of extra business, but they may not advertise the deals in the papers.

Shop Online

Thanksgiving weekend deals are available online too. However, many retailers now save their best online sales for the Monday after the holiday. Cyber Monday presents even more opportunities to save, not only on promotions, but also on gas.
